17-yr-old boy committed rape, murder, robbery alone in Gazipur: PBI

A 17-year-old boy raped two girls, killed four of a family then committed a robbery in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district.

The boy entered a man’s house in Abdar village of the upazila midnight and killed his wife and son, raped his two young daughters before killing four of his family and then robbed their valuables. He committed all these crimes in just five hours of the night.

The victims are Fatema Aktar, 40, wife of Rezowan Hossain who is expatriate in Malaysia, his elder daughter Sabrina Noora, 16, younger daughter Shaoreen, 12 and son Fadil Samdani, 8.

Sabrina Noora took the SSC examination this year and her younger sister was a sixth-grader. Their little brother was a kindergarten student.

Police said Fatema was an Indonesian citizen. While working in Malaysia, she fell in love with Rezowan Hossain of Sreepur, and got married 22 years ago.

The couple settled in Abdar village in 2010. Rezowan continued working in Malaysia, but Fatema did not return to work.

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has already arrested the boy and produced him before a Gazipur court on Monday for his deposition.

According to the police, the reported murderer studies at a ‘maktab’ in the area and his father is a rickshaw-puller. He has an elder brother and a younger sister.

PBI said the boy was accused of raping and killing a child in 2018. He spent nine months in jail for the murder case and recently was released.

According to a statement of the youth, he went to the house around 12:40am on Thursday. He first climbed up to the roof of the house and he then entered into the house through a ventilator of a washroom.

The alleged murderer first went to the room of the two sisters. Noora, one of the sisters, was still awake and was using her phone. He hid under their bed. Once everyone fell asleep, he came out, the deposition reads.

He then tried to use a ‘boti’ (large curved knife) from their kitchen to open the door to Fatema’s room. The noise woke Fatema, but she couldn’t find anything as the boy hid behind the door. When she was returning to bed, the boy hit her on her neck and head and she fell unconscious.

According to the statement, Noora came out of her room when she heard a cry. The boy then hacked her indiscriminately. This woke up Noora’s brother Fadil, who was a differently-abled child. The alleged killer also hacked him. When Shaoreen woke up, he hacked her too. The reported murderer then raped the wounded girls.

He slit the throats of all the victims to make sure they were dead.

He later robbed off gold jewelry, including necklaces, pendants, nose pins and a ring. He also stole a red diary and two mobile phones from the sisters’ room and fled through the backdoor of the house. He spent nearly five hours in the house.

PBI’s chief Banaj Kumar Majumdar told Prothom Alo that PIB was involved in the investigation along with the local police and Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The victims’ father was in regular contact with him.

Rezowan informed him about the boy and the boy was interrogated.

Gazipur PIB’s inspector Hafizur Rahman told Prothom Alo that he stayed at the home for around five hours.

Hafizur Rahman also said a blood-stained T-shirt along with the two mobile phones and gold jewelry were recovered from the boy’s house.

His age will be cross-checked as he was sent to Juvenile Correction Centre in Tongi of Gazipur, the PIB’s inspector added.
