One killed in ‘gunfight’ in Tongi
A man was killed in what the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) called a gunfight with them on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway near Tongi bridge on Monday night.
RAB claimed that the man was involved with drug trade.
The identity of the victim was not known immediately.
Assistant police superintendent of RAB-1 Mushfiqur Rahman Tushar told Prothom Alo that a patrol team being tipped off that a group of miscreants were selling drugs near the Tongi bridge went to the spot when the drug dealers opened fire at them.
“RAB also fired back in retaliation. Although others managed to flee the scene, the deceased took a bullet and died on the spot,” Mushfiqur Tushar added.
A foreign pistol, two bullets, a magazine and three packets of yaba pills were found in the possession of the deceased, he said further.
