RAB granted remand of OC Pradip, Liaqat

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has been granted 7-day remand for each of three accused in case regarding the killing of retired army major Sinha Md Rashed Khan. The three are officer-in-charge (OC) withdrawn from Teknaf police station, Pradip Kumar Das, police inspector Liaqat Ali and constable Safanur Karim.

The remaining four accused can be interrogated at the jail gate.

The court has issued a warrant of arrest against two others accused in the case.

RAB has made an appeal on Thursday evening at the Cox’s Bazar court, seeking 10-day remand for each of the accused. The court granted the seven-day remand after the hearing on Thursday night.

Before RAB made the remand appeal, 7 of the accused surrendered to the Cox’s Bazar court. The court ordered them to be taken to jail. Police inspector Liaqat Ali, one of the accused who had surrendered, had shot the retired army officer which resulted in his death.

Sinha Rashed’s elder sister Sharmeen Shahria Ferdous on Wednesday filed a case at the Cox’s Bazar court regarding the killing. The court directed RAB to investigate the case. Nine persons have been accused in the case.

RAB-15 commander Azim Ahmed told Prothom Alo that they had asked the court for 10 day remand for each of the accused.

Retired army major Sinha Md Rashed Khan (36) was shot dead by police in 31 July at the Shamlapur checkpost on the Teknaf Marine Drive in Cox’s Bazar.

His sister Sharmeen filed a case in this connection on Wednesday with the Cox’s Bazar senior judicial magistrate court.

Senior judicial magistrate Tamanna Farah took up the case and ordered the Teknaf police station OC to present an explanation within seven days.

Also, the RAB-15 Cox’s Bazar camp commander has been instructed to investigate the case and inform the court accordingly.
