The election commission has changed the delimitation of 10 parliamentary constituencies ahead of the 12th general election due next year.
The delimited constituencies are – Pirojpur-1, Pirojpur-2, Comilla-1, Comilla-2, Faridpur-2, Faridpur-4, Gazipur-2, Gazipur-5, Noakhali-1 and Noakhali-2 constituency. Four these constituencies, however, witnessed significant delimitation.
Currently, the Pirojpur-1 constituency encompasses Pirojpur Sadar, Nazirpur and Nesarabad upazilas and the constituency will encompass Pirojpur Sadar, Nazirpur and Indurkani upazilas.
At present, the Pirojpur-2 constituency encompasses Kawkhali, Bhandaria and Indurkani upazilas, and this parliamentary seat will have Kawkhali, Bhandaria and Indurkani upazilas after changing delimitation.
Currently, Cumilla-1 constituency consists of Daudkandi and Meghna upazilas and this constituency will encompass Daudkandi and Titas upazilas after re-demarcation.
Cumilla-2 constituency encompasses Homna and TItas upazilas and it will consist of Homna and Meghna upazilas after changing delimitation.
Faridpur-1 constituency comprises Nagarkanda and Saltha upazila and Krishnapur union of Sadarpur upazila. Krishnapur union has been removed from the delimited Faridpur-1 constituency.
Currently, Faridpur-4 constituency encompasses Bhanga, Charbhadrasan and all parts of Sadarpur upazila except Krishnapur union, and the Krishnapur union has now been added to this parliamentary seat after delimitation.
A union parishad has been delimited in Noakhali-1 and Noakhali-2 constituencies.
At present, Noakhali-1 parliamentary seat encompasses Chatkhil upazila and all parts of Sonaimuri upazila except Barogaon, Nateshwar and Ambarnagor union parisahds. However, Bajra union parishad of Sonaimuri upazila has been omitted from Noakhali-1 constituency and added to the Noakhali-2 constituency.
The delimited Nokhali-2 parliamentary seat encompasses Senbagh upazila and Barogaon, Nateshwar, Ambarnagor and Bajra union parishads of Sonaimuri upazila.
Besides, ward 39 of Gazipur City Corporation that falls in Gazipur 5 constituency was added to the delimited Gazipur 2 constituency.
The election commission published the draft of delimitation of constituencies in last February, recommending changes to six constituencies due to creation of administrative areas like upazila and ward.
The commission invited claims and objections from the local people and representatives on the draft and issued a circular of 1 June to this end. The commission published the circular its website on Saturday.
