Jubo Dal man killed amid police-BNP clashes

A leader of BNP's associate organisation Jubo Dal has been killed during the clashes between police and BNP leaders and activists in the capital's Naya Paltan area.

Deceased Shamim Mia is a resident of Mugda area in the capital.
BNP said he is a ward level leader of the Jubo Dal.

A Jubo Dal leader said Shamim Mia died after receiving injuries during the clashes between police and BNP leaders and activists on Saturday afternoon.

He was taken to Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital in the afternoon, where he died.

Speaking to Prothom Alo, hospital's director and deputy inspector general of police, Md Rezaul Haidar said there is no mark of injury in his body. It is thought he died from the cardiac arrest.

Kazi Sumon, former president of Jubo Dal’s Mugda thana unit, identified the deceased as the president of the ward No. 7 of Dhaka South City Corporation.

He said Shamim Mia died during the clash of BNP men with the police. He died at the hospital after being taken there in a critical health condition.

Haidar Islam Khan, deputy commissioner of the Motijheel division police, said Shamim fell down on a lane at Naya Paltan and was requesting the passersby to hospitalise him. At one stage, he was taken to the central police line hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead.

The deceased has no injury mark on his body. Still, the body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy, added the police officer.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s sibling, Nur Muhammad, rushed to the hospital on information of the death. He was called from his deceased brother’s phone and asked to receive the body.

Nur Muhammad also said his brother is a driver in profession and has two children. He, however, had no idea if Shamim was involved with any political party.

The authorities said some three to four people brought Shamim to the hospital in an injured state.
