Record numbers of houses were damaged in the terrible flood of Sunamganj this year – a devastation that the district has never experienced before.
The flood has mounted the sufferings of low-income people as they are still unable to return to their homesteads though the flood water has receded.
According to government information, 45,288 houses were damaged in 11 upazilas and four municipalities of the district: 4,747 ruined completely and 40,541 partially.
When asked, Md Jahangir, deputy commissioner of Sunamganj, said, "It is difficult to assess the loss in monetary value now. However, we will receive the allocation [from the government] next week and will start helping affected people."
