Admin puts pressure to keep CCTVs off at voting centres: Taimur Alam

Administration has been putting pressure to keep the CCTV cameras off at the polling centres during the voting of Narayanganj City Corporation elections on Sunday, alleged independent mayoral candidate Taimur Alam Khandaker.

He was talking to newspersons after the campaigning in Bandar area of Narayanganj on Friday afternoon.

Taimur Alam Khandaker, a veteran BNP leader, is the main opposition of incumbent Selina Hayat Ivy, who has been competing in the elections as the candidate of ruling Awami League.

“Chiefs of various polling centres are being ordered by the administration to keep the CCTV cameras at the centres shut. I think such directives have been given to facilitate vote rigging. What else could be the reason to issue directives to keep CCTVs at voting centres off when police talk about setting up those to curb crimes?” Taimur said.

Earlier, Taimur began his campaign procession from Sirajuddaula Club ground at around 4:30pm. The procession was ended at Payra Chattar of Madanganj at 5:30pm. Hundreds of supporters and activists of Taimur sought vote for “elephant” (the electoral symbol of Taimur) the independent mayoral candidate. Taimur sought blessings of the people.

Narayanganj city unit BNP vice-president Atiar Rahman took part in the rally. He said people will cast votes for change in the city corporation elections on 16 January.

Hoping that the election would be peaceful, he said, “All of us, who have been competing in the election, are dwellers of this city. All of us are in good terms with others. I don’t think there would be any kind of rigging or violence in the election. If anything happens that would bad for none but the government.”
