Foreign minister AK Abdul Momen has said no Myanmar nationals would be allowed to infiltrate Bangladesh after mortar shells of the country fell inside the Bangladesh territory on Saturday.

“Several armed groups have engaged in conflict in Myanmar. Nationals of that country move to Bangladesh fearing repression. But we have been informed that they are not heading towards here this time,” Momen told journalists in Sylhet on Saturday.

The foreign minister added, “We’ve taken precautionary measures on the border so that no Myanmar citizen can infiltrate here. We’ve kept the Border Guard Bangladesh on alert.”

Two shells fired by Myanmar security forces landed on a hill 120 metres inside Bangladesh territory in Naikhongchhari of Bandarban on Saturday morning.

Also, five fighter jets of Myanmar security forces were seen on the border along Naikhongchhari upazila in the district.
