A local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, whom family claimed to have been picked up by some plainclothes policemen from Shailakupa upazila around a week ago, was found dead at Jorapukur on the Harinakundu-Jhenaidah road in Harinakundu upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Idris Ali alias Panna Hujur, 56, a Rokon of Raghunathpur union unit Jamaat-e-Islami and a teacher of Hossain Ali Aleem Madrasa of the upazila.
Being informed by locals, who noticed the body, police recovered it around 7:30am and sent it to sadar hospital morgue for autopsy, said Mahtab Uddin, officer-in-charge of Harinakundu police station.
A motorcycle was also recovered from near the body.
Police suspected that Idris Ali might have died in a road accident.
However, the body bore several injury marks.
Idris Ali was wanted in several cases, including for the murder of police member Omar Faruk, said the OC. Police had no information about his going missing, the OC added.
On Tuesday, Idris Ali’s wife at a press briefing at the local press club claimed that 3-4 plainclothes policemen had picked up her husband on his way home from Ramchandrapur Bazar on 4 August.
