US congratulates Mirza Fakhrul on election as President

The United States has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as the 23rd President of Bangladesh and expressed its willingness to work with him to further strengthen bilateral ties.

“The United States looks forward to working with President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the Government of Bangladesh to further strengthen our bilateral partnership,” the US Embassy in Dhaka said in a message on Sunday.

Mirza Fakhrul was elected President of Bangladesh on 20 August.

He took the oath of office on Friday.
