448 industrial units sick: Minister

Some 448 industrial units, out of 5,800, are sick in the 74 industrial estates of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), industries minister Amir Hossain Amu told parliament on Monday.“Of the industrial units, 4,377 units are now in production, while
975 are under-construction and 448 industrial are sick,” Amu said.
A total of 9,977 plots have so far been allocated against 5,800 industrial units in the 74 BSCIC industrial estates, he told the House replying to an un-starred question from Awami League MP M Abdul Latif (Chittagong-11).
In reply to a starred question from AL MP Waseqa Ayesha Khan, he said there are 1,19,500 small industries, 6,57,325 cottage industries and 7106 medium industries across the country.
