Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) has left the BNP-led 20 party alliance after two decades citing several reasons including BNP MPs-elect oath taking.
BJP chairman Andaleeve Rahman Partho confirmed this to Prothom Alo on Monday.
BJP in a written statement said that they were surprised at the BNP’s decision to join parliament at the last moment.
By joining parliament, BNP has lost its moral right to reject the ‘farcical’ 30-December election, the statement added.
No alliance partners of the 20-party alliance had any knowledge about the BNP’s decision to join parliament, it added..
BJP also said that the 20-party alliance was vertually rendered ineffective after the BNP floated a new alliance ‘Jatiya Oikya Front’ ahead of the 11th parliamentary elections.
BNP did not involve any alliance partners in their dialogues with the government prior to the election, the statement alleged.
