The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor, Annisul Huq, on Wednesday assured the townspeople of presenting a different and more liveable city within the next three years, reports UNB news agency.

“Mayors and councillors are working sincerely to make the Dhaka city green and clean and free the capital from waterlogging, and ensure public security. Our activities will be visible within a year or two,” he said.

Speaking at a conference of Khatibs and Imams, the mayor further said, “I’m confident I along with the councillors will be able to change this city and make it more liveable within three years.”
Islamic Foundation arranged the programme at Suchana Community centre in the city’s Mohammadpur area.

Voicing concern that militancy and terrorism have now turned as big problems for Bangladesh, Annisul said the country’s ulema can play a key role in fighting it out. “If our country is branded as a militant one in the world, we’ll lose our all achievements,” he told his audience.

Describing ulema as the strong force of the country, he urged them to create awareness among people with their powerful sermons and guidance against militancy and misinterpretation of Islam.
