Another pro-BNP mayor, GK Gaus, has been suspended only 11 days after he resumed his mayoral duties following a long legal battle.
GK Gaus is the elected mayor of Habiganj municipality.
Our Habiganj correspondent said the circular detailing his suspension reached the Habiganj deputy commissioner’s office Sunday afternoon.
According to the government circular, Gaus has been suspended for his indictment in a case in connection with an attack on late Bangladesh Awami League (AL) leader Suranjit Sengupta.
Earlier in the day, the AL government suspended two pro-BNP mayors -- Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul of Rajshahi City Corporation and Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Sylhet City Corporation mayor – hours after they went to their respective offices to resume duties after their reinstatement by the court following a two-year legal battle.
GK Gaus was suspended shortly after his election in 2014 and landed in jail for a case in connection with the killing of Shah AMS Kibria.
He resumed his office as Habiganj mayor on 23 March after he was released on bail and reinstated by the High Court.
