BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury detained
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) joint secretary general Aslam Chowdhury was detained from Kuril Bishwa Road in the capital on Sunday.
Officials at the police headquarters said a team from the Khilgaon police station detained him in the evening.
Quoting Aslam Chowdhury’s personal secretary Nurul Kabir, BNP chairperson’s press wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan said Aslam has been detained from 300-Feet Road in Kuril.
Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told Prothom Alo on Sunday evening that there were sabotage cases against Aslam Chowdhury.
Earlier in the day, the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) imposed a ban on Aslam’s going abroad.
At a press confrerence, the CMP commissioner Iqbal Bahar on Aslam will be arrested whenever he is found.
“We’re looking for him for hatching an anti-state conspiracy. Our drive is on to arrest him. He’ll be arrested once he is found.”
Iqbal Bahar said they have enough evidence that Aslam had a meeting with Israeli secret agency Mossad in India to topple the government.
The BNP as well as Aslam Chowdhury, however, denied the allegation.
