BUP student killed in road crash, protesters block city street

Students of different universities blocked the road in front of Jamuna Future Park following death of a student of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) in a road crash in the capital on Tuesday morning, reports UNB.

The victim was Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury, son of brigadier general (retd) Arif Ahmed Chowdhury of Bashundhara area, and Bachelor's 1st year student of International Relations Department.

The accident took place around 7:15am when a bus of 'Suprobhat Paribahan' ran over Abrar, leaving him dead on the spot in front of Bashundhara gate, said Jahangir, sub-inspector of Gulshan police station.

Angered by the accident, students from North South University, Independent University of Bangladesh, American International University of Bangladesh and others blocked the road.

The students are chanting slogans demanding capital punishment of the bus driver.

Dhaka North City Corporation's (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam went to the area and talked to the protesting students.

He told the students that he will stay with them on the road and he wants punishment of the driver.
