Bobby Hajjaj, an adviser to Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad, will be contesting the upcoming Dhaka City Corporation (North) elections as an independent mayoral candidate.

He made this announcement at his Banani office in the capital on Saturday.

"There are two reasons for contesting the polls. Firstly, this is a non-partisan election where parties do not have an influence. Secondly, I was born in this city and I want to make Dhaka as I have dreamt it to be," said Bobby.

When asked whether JP chairman Ershad is aware of his participation in the mayoral elections, he said,

"Ershad is like a father to me. I don't want him to get hurt. I have always tried to consult with him. His blessing will always be with me."

The JP had announced to back party general secretary Bahauddin Bahar for mayor in DCC (north) polls.
In this regard, Bobby said, "I don't want any dispute in the party. I want peoples' support as an individual, not as a party member."
