Pay and Service Commission chairman Muhammad Farashuddin has said the commission has been working for formulating a new pay structure for the 13-lakh government officials and employees.
He said the commission has been working to make the pay structure keeping in mind the inflation.
The pay commission chairman made the observation while sharing views with the divisional and district level civil servants at the conference hall of deputy commissioner in Rajshahi on Wednesday as the chief guest.
Commission Members Abul Kashem, Sheikh Khorshed Alam, Shahad Chowdhury and Prof Jafar Khaled and additional secretary to finance division Muhammad Ali Khan and divisional commissioner of Rajshahi Helaluddin Ahmed were present at the meeting.
Farashuddin revealed that the commission will consider the cost of living of a six-member family while fixing the new salaries and it will submit a report on the salary hike of 13 lakh government officials and employees. "At this moment it is difficult to say, but it will take at least 12 months," he said adding that the time limit can be extended if necessary.
Responding to various queries and opinions he said issues like inflation, the government's financial position and salary structure of government employees in other countries would also be taken into consideration.
The economy has made much progress after the last pay rise, he said. "The government employees should also be beneficiaries of the economic prosperity achieved by the country."
The commission has already prepared a questionnaire for conducting a survey to finalise the report, he said, adding that people from different sections will provide their opinion on the questionnaire.
"Efficiency, productivity and transparency of government officials and employees would be enhanced if their salaries and other benefits are increased. It would also help curb dishonesty among them," Farashuddin added.
Farashuddin said they are examining the reports of pay commissions of different countries and previous pay commissions in Bangladesh to make a suitable report."I hope we will be able to help the government with a standard report," he added.
