A Dhaka court on Sunday acquitted Khadiza Akter Shumi, a domestic help, in a case filed over killing of police officer Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman in 2013, reports UNB.
Judge of Dhaka Child Court Al Mamun acquitted Shumi as the complaints against her of assisting Oishee in killing her parents could not be proved.
Oishee, a 19-year-old girl, has been earlier sentenced to suffer life term jail in the case allegedly for murdering her parents.
On 16 August 2013, the police recovered the bodies of Special Branch (SB) inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman from their Chamelibagh residence in the capital.
Oishee later surrendered to the police, confessing to her involvement in the killing.
The police also arrested her two friends Asaduzzaman and Mizanur and the domestic help of their house, Khadiza Akhter Shumi, in connection with the murder.
Mahfuzur's brother Mohammad Mashiur Rahman Rubel filed a case with Paltan police station on 17 August 2013.
On 12 November 2015, judge Syed Ahmed of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 sentenced Oishee Rahman to death for killing her parents. The tribunal also fined her Tk 20,000.
The High Court on 5 June 2017, commuted the death sentence awarded to Oishee to life term imprisonment.
