
Fire broke out in three compartments of a Dhaka-bound inter-city train, from Sylhet, at the Cantonment Rail Station in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
The Kalni Express was on its way to the Kamalapur Rail Station in the city when the fire broke out at about 1:30 pm.
However, no casualties were reported.
Witnesses said that all the passengers panicked when the fire broke out and spread quickly.
Three compartments of the train were burnt before the firefighters succeeded to bring it under control.
Railway assistant director (operation) Saidur Rahman said that the fire originated from an oven of the train’s kitchen in one of the three compartments and soon it engulfed to another two compartments.
Railways Minister Mujibul Haque visited the spot following the incident.
A four-member committee was formed to investigate into the causes behind the fire.
