Ferry services on the Shimulia-Kewrakandi route in the river Meghna was disrupted for almost eight hours on Monday morning due to dense fog.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) manager Abdul Alim at Shimulia in Munshiganj said ferry services as well as plying of other water vessels came to a halt around 2:00am due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.
As a result, three ferries -- Raipura, Ranikhet, and Shah Ali -- remained stranded in the middle of the river Meghna, much to the suffering of the passengers as a good number of vehicles were kept waiting on both sides of the river.
Meanwhile, another Dhaka-bound ferry, MV-Anchal-4, got stuck in a Char in the river Meghna near Gazaria upazila at about 5:00am.
Gazaria marine police sub inspector Shakhawat Hossain confirmed the incident. Rescue operation will start after fogs stir clear, he added.
