Four more cases were filed against the Daily Star editor Mahfuz Anam in Satkhira, Kishorganj, Narayanganj and Manikganj on Tuesday.
The cases were filed for carrying false reports against prime minister Sheikh Hasina based on information supplied by the army intelligence DGFI during military-backed regime in 2007-08.
In the cases, Mahfuz has been charged of sedition and defamation. With this, the number of cases filed against the seasoned journalist rose to 39.
All the cases were filed by leaders and activists of ruling Awami League, its student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League, pro-government organisations and pro-AL lawyers.
Most of the cases have alledged that Mahfuz Anam published false and distorted stories against AL president Sheikh Hasina to serve the purposes of a force that led AL president spend days in prison.
