Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Wednesday called a 24-hour countrywide general strike from Thursday morning protesting at the execution of its ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami.
Shortly after the execution, the party announced its programme in a press release.
In the press release, Jamaat’s acting ameer Makbul Ahmed alleged that Nizami was “deprived of justice and made a victim of political vendetta.”
Calling Nizami a martyr, the party announced three day programmes.
They are: holding ghayebana janaza (funeral prayer in the absence of the body) across the country on Wednesday, 24-hour countrywide general strike from 5:00am on Thursday and saying prayers for Nizami on Friday.
