Journalist leader Shaukat Mahmood arrested

Journalist leader and BNP chairperson's adviser Shaukat Mahmood has been arrested in a case filed in connection with torching vehicles in Jatrabari area.
He was held from city’s Panthapath area on Tuesday.
Mohammad Abdul Momin, personal assistant of Shaukat Mahmood, told Porthom Alo that police barred Mahmood from entering Samarai Convention Centre, a programme venue of Adrasha Dhaka Andolon. Later, plain-clothed policemen picked up him in a car.
He thinks the journalist leader has been taken to the headquarters of detective branch of police.
A total of eight sabotage cases were filed against the former president of press club, Shaukat Mahmood.
Requesting anonymity, a police source told Prothom Alo Mahmood was arrested in three cases filed with Jatrabari police station.
The organisers of the meeting and witnesses said he was to attend a meeting to present information on irregularities of the city corporation election at 11:00am.
From the convention centre’s gate, professor Emajuddin Ahmed said, “This incident conflicting to what the prime minister and her cabinet say about democracy. The government should be aware of citizen rights.”
Adarsha Dhaka Andolon leader, senior journalist Mahfuzullah said detective officials knew about the meeting previously, and they did not have any objection about it.
