Korail slum fire burns down 400 shanties

At least 400 shanties were gutted as a devastating fire broke out at Korail slum in the city’s Mohakhali area on Sunday afternoon.

Officials at fire service control room said the fire broke out at the slum around 2:49 pm.

On information, 14 firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the flame around 4:15 pm.

Contacted, Fire Service assistant director Masudur Rahman Akand said at least 400 shanties were burnt as the fire raged through the slum in the afternoon.

Replying to a question, he said he heard that a woman suffered burn injuries in the fire incident. It was not clear what caused the fire.

Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Annisul Huq visited the spot.  While talking to reporters there, he said a list of the affected people is being prepared to give them financial support.
