Death-row convict Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali’s wife Khandaker Ayesha Khatun has said her husband does not fear death.

"He (Mir Quasem) does not fear death," said Ayesha while talking to reporters after coming out of the Kashimpur jail.

Ayesha along with 40-45 members of Quasem’s family entered the jail at 3:35pm to see him for the last time as the jail authorities were making preparations to hang him on charge of crimes against humanity committed in the liberation war in 1971.

The family members came out of the jail at 7:15pm.

His wife said Mir Quasem regretted that he could not meet his missing son, Mir Ahmed Bin Quasem, even before his execution.

His family claimed that Bin Quasem, also a member of Quasem’s defence team, was picked up by members of law enforcement agencies on 9 August.

Shortly after the family members came out of the jail, the inspector general (prisons) Syed Iftekhar Uddin entered the jail apparently to take necessary preparations to hang him as it is being believed that he might be executed in hours.

The executive order to hang Quasem has already reached the Kashimpur jail authorities.
