The Detective Branch (DB) of police detained president of a faction of the Islami Oikkya Jote in Chittagong on Friday.

The DB detained Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury, the Oikkya Jote leader and president of the Nezam-e-Islam, from the city’s Jamatul Ulum Madrasa at Lalkhan Bazaar.
Mufti Izahar is the head of the madrasah.
DB additional deputy commissioner SM Tanvir Arafat said Mufti Izahar was wanted in three cases filed under killing, explosives, and acid acts. He has been absconding for long time.
On information, police detained him from the madrasah and took him to the DB office.
Police said, on 7 October, 2013, three students were killed in several blasts in some rooms at his madrasah.
The deceased were then identified as Md Habib, Md Jubayer, and Md Nurunnabi.
Later, police filed three cases against six people, including Mufti Izhar and his son Harun Izhar, with Khushli police station under murder, explosives, and acid acts.
Police submitted charge sheet against the six people after investigation was completed.
Now, testifying on the cases is continuing.
Police arrested the Mufti’s son Harun Izhar two days after the incident occurred.
On 13 December, 2013, RAB-7 filed two more cases against Mufti Izhar as the elite force claimed to find out a militant hub in Raujan Rubber Garden area of Chittagong.
Lawyer of Mufti Izhar, Abdus Sattar, said police detained him as he went out after performing Jumma prayer. Police did not produce him before court till afternoon. He is wanted in some case, the lawyer added.
Abdus Sattar also said the cases filed against Izhar are just to harass him politically.
