A case has been filed against Mirpur police officer-in-charge (OC) Salahuddin Ahmed and sub-inspector Zahidur Rahman and 8 others on charge of killing a garment waste trader in police custody.
Momtaj Sultana, wife of victim Mahbubur Rahman Sujan, filed the case with Dhaka metropolitan session judge court on Sunday.
On 12 July midnight, SI Zahid took Mahbubur Rahman, his wife Mamtaz Sultana and their son Mosharraf to Mirpur police station from Shankar area of Dhaka.
Momtaj said that police tortured Mahbubur keeping Momtaj and Mosharraf in another room. Mahbubur died in the early hours of 13 July.
Mahbub's family member accused SI Zahid and some other police personnel of Mirpur police station of 'killing' him.
On 13 July, SI Zahid was withdrawn from the police station and a three-member investigation committee was also formed in this connection.
Police arrested SI Zahid and police source Nasim and took them for five-day police custody for interrogation.
