A Dhaka court on Thursday convicted Oishee Rahman and sentenced her to death for killing her parents, police officer Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman, in 2013.
Oishee’s friend and associate Mizanur Rahman received a two year jail-term and another associate, Asaduzzaman Rony, has been acquitted of all charges.
The court said the murder was pre-planned and awarded her the death penalty since she was an adult when she brutally killed her parents.
The trial proceedings started on 8 July 2014 with the recording of witness depositions.
A total of 39 witnesses out of 57, gave their depositions before the tribunal.
On 16 August 2013, police recovered the bodies of SB Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman from their Chamelibagh residence in the capital.
Later, Oishee surrendered to the police confessing to her involvement in the killing.
Police also arrested her two friends Asaduzzaman and Mizanur, and domestic help, Khadiza Akhter Sumi, in connection with the murder.
Mahfuzur’s brother Mohammad Mashiur Rahman Rubel filed a case with Paltan Police Station on 17 August.
Abul Khayer, inspector of Detective Branch of Police, submitted two separate charge-sheets-one against Oishee and her two friends on 9 March 2014, and the other against Sumi, who was a juvenile at the time of the murders.
