Onion sells at Tk 250 per kg in Khulna
Keeping pace with other parts of the country, markets in Khulna saw onion prices on Friday with each kilogram selling at Tk 230 to Tk 250.
According to Khulna district market office, onions are selling at Tk 175 to Tk 180 in wholesale markets. Onion – a key ingredient in Bangladeshi cooking – was being sold at Tk 230 in retail markets.
Visiting kitchen markets in the city, UNB correspondent found that consumers are spending Tk 250 for each kg onion.
Many said lack of direct import, reluctance to import onion from Egypt and Turkey, and buying onions from Chattogram port through third party took the price to its highest in the current year.
The wholesalers and market officials said the prices will not decline until new onions come to the market.
