Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has urged Canada for the deportation of Nur Chowdhury, one of the convicted killers of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, to Bangladesh, reports UNB.

She made the request at a meeting with her Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau at Le Petit Frontence (place of residence of Canadian prime minister) in Quebec city on Sunday.

PM's press secretary Ihsanul Karim at a briefing said the prime minister requested Trudeau for his action for the immediate deportation of the Bangabandhu's self-confessed killer.

Sheikh Hasina told Trudeau that Nur Chowdhury, a killer of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has been living in Canada. He (Nur Chowdhury) is a self-confessed killer and was convicted under the law of Bangladesh, she said.

She sought Trudeau's serious attention and actions on the matter and strongly requested for the immediate deportation of Nur Chowdhury to Bangladesh as the people of Bangladesh cannot accept the killer’s impunity from justice.

In reply, the Canadian prime minister has expressed his compassion saying, "I can understand how painful it's for you. Nur Chowdhury has no citizen status in Canada ...he is not a citizen of Canada."

Pointing out his country's legal system about deportation of a person convicted with death penalty, Trudeau said officials of Canada are quietly engaged in dealing with the issue.

Sheikh Hasina thanked the Canadian government for extending its support and assistance to her government on the Rohingya crisis.

She said Myanmar signed the agreement with Bangladesh for the repatriation of the Rohingyas. But, they are silent when the question of implementation of the agreement comes.

Hasina said her government has decided to relocate the Rohingyas living vulnerably on hill-tops to a safer place in an island named “Bhashanchar” so that they can live in a better condition.

Foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali, principal secretary Md Nojibur Rahman and foreign secretary Md Shahidul Haque were present during the meeting.
