Workers Party of Bangladesh president, Rashed Khan Menon, on Saturday said, people could not cast their votes in the 11th parliament elections on 30 December, 2018.
The president of the ruling Awami League’s ally made the statement while addressing Barishal district unit council of Workers Party at Ashini Kumar Town Hall in Barishal.
“I’m the living witness of it. People were deprived of voting rights. But once, current prime minister Sheikh Hasina and I, myself, took to the streets for holding fair elections,” Menon told the gathering.
Menon, also a member of parliament of the current parliament, lamented that the people could not express their opinion through exercising their voting rights.
People are also losing their rights even in local elections including upazila and union parishad polls, he added.
Menon, who was a minister in the 10th parliament, warned that the developments might collapse in the country where people could not exercise their voting rights.
The prime minister is now surrounded by corrupt people, he also said.
