Lieutenant colonel Abul Kalam Azad, chief of the intelligence wing of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) who was seriously injured in the Sylhet blasts on Saturday, was flown to Singapore on Sunday night for better treatment.

“An air ambulance carrying injured Azad took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Singapore around 8:15 pm,” said Director (Media) of RAB headquarters Mufti Mahmood Khan.

He will be admitted to Mount Elizabeth Hospital there, Mahmood said.

Six people, including two policemen, were killed and 40 others, including Azad and another official of the wing major Azad, injured in two bomb blasts near the suspected militant den at Shibbari in South Surma upazila in Sylhet on Saturday night during an Army-led operation.

Both of the RAB officials were airlifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on Saturday night.

Police said two people carrying bombs came to the spot riding a motorcycle and hurled those around 6:45 pm on Saturday.
One of the bombs went off while the other one remained unexploded.
Minutes later, the unexploded bomb went off when police picked it up to diffuse.
