Jatiya Party MP AKM Salim Osman surrendered to a court in Dhaka on Sunday in connection with a case filed for humiliating schoolteacher Shyamol Kanti Bhakta in public in Narayanganj on 23 May, reports news agency UNB.

The Narayanganj MP surrendered to the court of Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Jasmine Ara Begum in the morning.

The court ordered Selim to appear before the court on 23 May, as he submitted a bail order issued by the High Court on 8 May for two weeks.

Earlier, on 29 March, the court asked Selim to appear before it on 14 May.

On May in 2016, Shyamol Kanti, headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Narayanganj, was humiliated and forced to squat holding his ears in the presence of local Jatiya Party MP Salim Osman.

A video clip of the incident went viral on social media network sparking off huge protests across the country.
