Top leaders of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, aka Jasad, on Tuesday urged the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, to restrain  Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam from speaking against the party, a component of the ruling alliance.

At a rally organised protesting at the death threat against information minister Hasanul Haq Inu in front of the National Press Club in the capital, the scientific socialists feared such mud-slinging would affect unity of the 14-party alliance.

While addressing a Bangladesh Chhatra League conference on Monday, Syed Ashraf, also public administration minister, termed the proponents of the JSD ideology 100 per cent hypocrites.

Criticising the comment, Dhaka University professor Anwar Hossain, also Jasad leader, said, “I request the prime minister, please, stop your minister. Please, shut his mouth as he is making confusing comments, leading to disunity in this critical situation. I also request Syed Ashraf, please, be attentive to your ministry. We know how you are carrying out your responsibility as a minister, the countrymen also know that.”

Jasad faction general secretary Shirin Akhtar said, “This mud-slinging would ruin our unity, and weaken the pro-liberation war force at a time when we are accomplishing the unfinished tasks led by the information minister who is tirelessly working to advance the prime minister’s development programmes.”

“Rather, let’s strengthen the 14-party alliance to fight militancy and stop assassinations and thus ensure a secured life for the citizens,” she added.
