Stray elephant Banga Bahadur dies

Stray elephant Banga Bahadur, which was swept by flood water from India, died in Sarishabari of Jamalpur at 6:30am this morning.

Dulahazra Safari Park veterinary surgeon Mostafizur Rahman said the elephant gradually became weak and lied down in muddy water around around 11:30am on Monday.

A total of 12 salines were administered to it till evening, and other treatment was also provided for recovery.

The giant elephant was scheduled to be shifted to Gazipur Safari Park. A caretaker of the park was injured being kicked by the elephant. He was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College hospital.

The elephant was tranquilised and shackled to a tree in Koira village in the upazila.

On 28 June, the elephant was swept by floodwater along the Brahmaputra river from Assam into Kurigram district through Roumari border.
