Univ students countrywide protest at Abrar murder

Students of different universities across the country have held demonstrations on their respective campuses and demanded exemplary punishment of the killers of BUET student Abrar Fahad.

Several hundred students of Dhaka University, led by Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) vice president Nurul Haque Nur, held a protest rally at the base of anti-terrorism Raju sculpture around 12.30pm, reports UNB.

Addressing the rally DUCSU social welfare secretary Akhter Hossain said it's clear that who are responsible for Abrar's death.

"We want exemplary punishment of the killers as soon as possible so that no such incident can take place in future."

Akhter said Abrar's death is the consequences of the absence of justice in the society.

After the rally they brought out a procession that paraded the major points of the university and ended in front Sher-E-Bangla hall of BUET.

Teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University also staged a human chain on the campus demanding capital punishment of the killers of Abrar, reports our Jahangirnagar University correspondent.

The students also brought out a protest rally.

Anthropology department’s professor Sayeed Ferdous, Samajnantrik Chhatra Front (Marxist) president Mahathir Mohammad, Samajnantrik Chhatra Front’s president Susmita Marium, among others, spoke at the programme.

In Rajshahi, Rajshahi University students protest at the gruesome killing of Abrar Fahad.

Progotishil Chhatra Jote (Progressive Students’ Alliance) brought out a protest rally from Amtala area of the campus on Monday afternoon.

The students also blocked Rajshahi-Dhaka highway for half an hour.

Students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology also hold a human chain in front of main gate of the campus in Sylhet demanding capital punishment of the killers of Abrar.

The students later brought out a protest rally which paraded Sylhet-Sunamganj highway.

Chemistry department student Towhiduzzaman Jewel, Business administration department’s Noman Hossain Khondokar and physics department’s Mehrab spoke at the protest rally.

Abrar, 21, a student Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) was found dead at his room at Sher-E-Bangla Hall of the university early Monday.
