A 50-year-old man has been admitted in Jamalpur General Hospital after his wife allegedly chopped off his private parts, following an altercation in Madarganj upazila on Sunday.
The victim is Rashedul Islam.
Police arrested Rashedul's wife Ferdousi Begum, 40, in this connection.
Rashedul had been living in Malaysia for the past 10 years and came home three months ago.
According to police and locals, Rasedul and Ferdousi had a fight over the money Rashedul sent home from Malayshia.
On Sunday night, when Rashedul was in deep sleep, Ferdousi tried to slice off his genitals with a sharp blade.
Locals took Rashedul to upazila health complex hearing his scream.
Later, he was shifted to Jamalpur General Hospital.
Jamalpur General Hospital acting director Ferdous Hasan told Prothom Alo that one third of Rashedul's genitals has been sliced off.
It will be reconstructed with surgery, he added.
Rashedul's cousin Abdul Karim lodged a case in this connection.
He said, "My brother sent money to his wife from abroad. He could not get any trace of the money he sent. His wife did this because my brother asked about the money."
Madarganj police sub-inspector Harun-ur-Rashid told Prothom Alo Rashedul's wife did this following a dispute over the money he sent from Malaysia.
