Covid patient found hanging near home

A hanging body of a Covid patient was recovered from an orchard in Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Sheikh Asgar Ali, 55, a resident of Ilishpur village of the upazila.

Sheikh Mamun Aslam, son of Asgar Ali, said his father was infected with coronavirus around two weeks ago. He under treatment, staying in isolation at home. However, he became cranky staying alone for so long.

Mamun Aslam said Asgar Ali went out at 2:00am on Friday. As he delayed in returning home, his family searched for him all night. Following Fajr prayers, neighbours informed them that they saw his body hanging from a mango tree in a nearby orchard.

Later, police visited the spot and brought down the body from the tree, he added.

Officer in charge of Kalaroa thana Mir Kairul Kabir said, the body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy. Primarily, it is being seen as suicide, but the reason of suicide cannot be ascertained without investigation.

The deceased left a note in an envelope. The note read, ‘No one is responsible for my death.’ The handwriting has been identified as that of the deceased, the OC added.
