Five people have have been killed and at least 48 injured in a blast at Moghbazar Wireless Gate area in the capital on Sunday evening.
Among the injured, the condition of ten is critical, physicians have said. The incident took place at 7:30pm on Sunday.
Police immediately reported the deaths of three people. Two others died after being taken to hospital.
Police and eyewitnesses said passengers from two buses have been injured in this explosion.
At least 48 people have been injured in the incident. Of them, 36 were taken to DMCH and the remaining 12 admitted to Sheikh Hasina Burn Institutes.
Residential physician of Sheikh Hasina Burn Institutes Pathor Sangkar Pal said two people died while the condition of 10 others is critical.
Eyewitness pedestrian Jannat Ara said she heard a bang while standing in front of a nearby building. Some of the plaster of the building--under which she was standing--fell on the electric power transformer. Then the transformer exploded and the fire engulfed two passenger buses plying on and beneath the flyover.
Bus passenger Syed Iqbal Hossain (50) said when their bus reached the Moghbazar Wireless Gate area under the flyover, he saw a bus burning on the flyover. Afterwards, he became unconscious. When he regained consciousness, he found him that he is in a hospital.
