‘Bangabandhu killer Moslehuddin handed over to Bangladesh’

Risaldar Moslehuddin, one of the suspected killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has been handed over to Bangladesh, according to the Indian media.

Two influential media outlets of India on Tuesday reported that Moslehuddin was handed over through a land port along the border.

However, police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Dhaka said that they had no information about the arrest of Moslehuddin in India.

Speaking to Prothom Alo, Interpol Bangladesh office chief and assistant inspector general of police Mohiul Islam on Tuesday said they have no knowledge about it so far.

A source in the government, however, did not deny the arrest of Moslehuddin in India.

The source requested the correspondent to wait for a confirmation.

Indian TV channel NDTV said Risaldar Moslehuddin was handed over to Bangladesh on Monday. West Bengal police was unaware of the matter as the Indian top intelligence agency conducted the operation.

It also said there was a confusion when a photo and video of Moslehuddin were released.

After the release of the photo, different sources claimed Moslehuddin died a few years ago.

NDTV also said another Bangabandhu killer, who was recently executed in Bangladesh, gave information about the whereabouts of Risaldar Moshlehuddin.

Indian media outlet The Hindu said Moslehuddin 'was probably handed over'. It was waiting for a confirmation from the Bangladesh side.

Leading Indian media outlet Anandabazar on Monday reported that Moslehuddin was arrested from a village at Uttar Chabbis Porgona with the cooperation of Indian intelligence agency.

Moslehuddin reportedly was in the frontline during the attack on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family on 15 August, 1975.

Moslehuddin fled the country when Awami League came to power in 1996 and started the trial. His family members also went into hiding. All of his properties were confiscated.

Earlier, police arrested another Bangabandhu killer Abdul Majed and sent to the court on 7 April.

According to the report submitted to the court, he was arrested from in front of Gabtoli Bus Terminal in the capital. Indian media said their intelligence agency arrested Majed and handed him over to the Bangladesh authorities. He was executed at the Dhaka Central Jail at 12:01am on 12 April. He stayed in India for over 22 years. He also obtained an Indian passport.

If the arrest of Moslehuddin is true, there are four more self-confessed fugitive killers. They are Khandaker Abdur Rashid, Shariful Haque Dalim, Nur Chowdhury and AM Rashed Chowdhury. All of them were army officers.

Other killers Syed Faruk Rahman, Bozlul Huda, AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed, Sultan Shariar Khan and Muhiuddin Ahmed were executed on 27 January 2010.

Another accused Aziz Pasha had died in Zimbabwe in 2002.
