Bangladesh extends suspension of flights till 16 May

Bangladesh has extended the suspension of passenger flights both on domestic and international routes till 16 May.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) said this in a press statement on Tuesday.

Quoting CAAB chairman air vice marshal M Mafidur Rahman, the press statement said the suspension will be applicable for passenger flights on international routes to Bahrain, Bhutan, Hong Kong, India, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanks, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, and the UK.

The flights on domestic routes will also remain suspended, it added.

But, it added, the flights of cargo and relief planes, air ambulance, emergency landing and special flights will continue operation.

Earlier, after remaining closed for almost one and a half month, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) and the Aviation Operators Association of Bangladesh (AOAB) said they might resume domestic flights on a limited scale from 8 May. It has been extended once again.

The number of passengers had fallen by 40 per cent as of March. The CAAB shut down all domestic flights along with international flights on 21 March.

It was later extended in several phases.
