Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Wednesday said he will talk to prime minister Sheikh Hasina whether the Kalabagan police station could be established in any other place instead of the Tentultala field.
The minister came up with this assurance while meeting with the environmentalists and the representatives of civil society at the secretariat in Dhaka.
Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (Bela) chief executive Syeda Rizwana Hasan, human rights activist Khushi Kabir, architect Iqbal Habib, among others, were present at the meeting.
Following the meeting, Syeda Rizwana Hasan told journalists that “We are returning with a bit hope. After talking to him, it seems that he will keep the issue in active consideration.”
Human rights activist Khushi Kabir said, “We clearly told him that we want the immediate halt of the construction work at the field. We want the Eid Jamaat to be held at this ground as it did in the past. Home minister said he will discuss the issue with the PM and look for an alternative place for the establishment. The minister also told us to help find another space.”
When asked, Syeda Rizwana said, “Home minister also feels the need for this playground. But they have already paid Tk 270 million. We told him that the amount of money they paid is in the government treasurer. There are many abandoned places in the Kalabagan.”
The representatives of the civil society will send a letter to the prime minister Sheikh Hasina over the issue. The home boss assured us that he will take the letter to the PM.
