
A total of 25,537 litres of fuel oil have been recovered in nationwide drives in a single day. The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources said that, with this, a total of 372,388 litres of fuel oil have been recovered so far.
The government is conducting drives across the country against the illegal stockpiling of fuel. From 3 March to 1 April, a total of 4,824 drives were carried out in 64 districts.
These details were presented today, Thursday, at a press conference organised by the ministry. The information was presented by Monir Hossain Chowdhury, spokesperson (joint secretary) of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, at the ministry’s conference room.
The press conference revealed that 381 drives were conducted yesterday, Wednesday, and a total of 169 cases were filed. Fines amounting to Tk 886,000 were imposed. One person was sentenced to imprisonment. In these drives, 25,132 litres of diesel, 10 litres of octane, and 395 litres of petrol were seized.
The Energy Division said that, so far, a total of 2,009 cases have been filed. A total of Tk 10.1 million in fines has been collected. Twenty-four people have been sentenced to imprisonment. So far, a total of 271,374 litres of diesel, 30,960 litres of octane, and 70,054 litres of petrol have been recovered.
The Energy Division also provided the current fuel stock data. It said that the country currently has 122,660 tonnes of diesel in stock, 9,021 tonnes of octane, 12,194 tonnes of petrol, and 41,876 tonnes of jet fuel.
A mobile court of RAB seized a total of 296 litres of fuel oil—158 litres of octane and 138 litres of diesel—from two establishments selling oil today, Thursday, in the capital’s Agargaon area. These fuels had been stockpiled at the establishments.
A press release from RAB-2 said that the owners of the two establishments admitted to stockpiling the fuel. They were found guilty and each establishment was fined Tk 2,000. They were also verbally warned.
