Security tightened in Cox's Bazar court over Sinha murder verdict

Security has been beefed up at the Cox's Bazar court premises since Monday morning following the verdict in the murder case of retired Army Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan.

Several checkposts have been spotted at the court premises in the Laldighi Par area of ​​Cox's Bazar city in Monday at around 8:00am. No one except lawyers are allowed to enter the court.

Cox's Bazar Additional District Superintendent of Police Rafiqul Islam told Prothom Alo that adequate security measures have been taken at the court premises.

Cox's Bazar District Sessions Judge Faridul Alam came to the court around 9:00am. He said, the verdict may be pronounced around 10:30am.

Meanwhile, relatives of the accused have also started coming to the court premises. Rahul Sharma, younger brother of police constable Rubel Sharma, accused in Sinha murder case, is awaiting trial. "Those who have committed crimes should be punished," he told Prothom Alo on the court premises.

“We do not want any innocent to be punished. If my brother committed a crime, let him be punished. However, my brother should not be punished because of some fictitious reasons,” he further said.

Physically disabled Rahul Sharma said accused Rubel Sharma was the only earner in their family.

Along with the police, RAB patrol has been intensified in Cox's Bazar.

Sinha Mohammad was shot dead by inspector Liaqat Ali of Baharchhara police station at Shamlapur check post on Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive road at 9.30 pm on 31 July, 2020. Police arrested Shahedul Islam (Sifat) who was with him.

Police then conducted a raid in Nilima resort where Sinha had been staying and arrested two members of his video team, Shipra Debnath and Tahsin Rifat Nur. Though Tahsin was later released, police arrested Shipra and Sifat and sent them to jail. The two were later released on bail.
