A member of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) has been detained by the Bangladesh Army in the Babuchhora area of Khagrachhari, UNB reports.
The detainee has been identified as Swarna Langkar Chakma alias Roni, 41, an active member of the armed wing of the UPDF (Main). A firearm has been seized from his possession.
Based on intelligence inputs, the Army conducted a special drive in the Babuchara area and detained Roni.
The Army personnel also seized a Chinese pistol, a magazine, three rounds of bullets, three mobile sets, Tk 38,520, receipts of extortion and other equipment from his possession.
Intelligence sources said that the detained UPDF member had been extorting money from targets in the area. Legal action will be taken against the detainee, sources said.
