“We have already adopted measures of installing the technology in some arsenic-infected areas in Rajshahi region,” said Prof Monzur Hossain of the Department of Botany in RU.
Prof Monzur and Prof Tom Bury Kaoakami from the of water engineering department in Japan’s Toyama University have jointly invented the technology namely ‘Removal of Arsenic through Electronic System’ after a five-year long intensive research.
Giving a salient feature of the technology Prof Monzur said anyone can operate the device through using electricity or battery.
He said the device has been developed through the use of local ingredients taking the country’s alarming arsenic issue into considering.
Local electricians can also manufacture the tool at a cost of Tk 8,000 to Tk 10,000 easily and the machine is capable of freeing arsenic from 20-30 litres of water at a time.

Relating to implementation of the technology Prof Monzur said a pilot project will be launched at Moharajpur village in Chapainawabganj district within the next month. The project will not discharge any harmful wastes to the public health or environment, he added.
