A free transport service for caregivers, including physicians and nurses, was launched in the capital on Wednesday so that they can reach hospitals faster and in a convenient way as the government shut public transports to stem the outbreak of novel coronavirus in the country.

A number of busses and microbuses have been arranged to pick up physicians and nurses from their homes and drop them at their hospitals in three shifts -- at 8:00am, 2:00pm and 8:00pm, reports news agency UNB.

Apart from the scheduled shuttle services, transport will also be provided for the physicians and nurses in case of emergency calls within the capital.

Under the supervision of Directorate General of Health Services, non-government organisation ‘The Earth Society’ and vehicle IT solution firm ‘Bondstein Technologies’ jointly took the initiative with the help of DBL Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and Dhaka Hub of Global Shapers, said a press release.

The service was named as ‘Crack Platoon Transport Service’ inspired by the famous guerrilla unit named ‘Crack Platoon’ that had conducted a number of heroic commando operations in Dhaka during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.

Over 250 physicians and caregivers have so far registered in the website for availing themselves of the service.

Any physicians or caregiver in need of the service can register through the website -- bit.ly/crackplatoontransport and can call the hotline number – 09639595959.
