15 areas of Sunamganj go under complete lockdown

Local administration has placed 15 areas in eight upazilas of Sunamganj district in complete lockdown from Tuesday, reports news agency UNB.

According to the civil surgeon's office, 15 areas in eight of 11 upazilas in the district have been identified as 'red zone'.

According to guidelines of Directorate General of Health Services of Bangladesh, an area could be identified as ‘red zone’ if 10 or more COVID-19 patients are found in every 100,000 people of any area except Dhaka metropolitan area within 14 consecutive days. The guidelines also said an area could be identified as ‘yellow zone’ if three to nine COVID-19 patients are found in every 100,000 people of any area except the Dhaka metro within 14 consecutive days.

The areas which have been identified as the red zone are: Sunamganj municipal area of Sadar upazila, Purba Pagla, Paschim Pagla and Joykalash union of Dakhshin Sunamganj, Palash union of Bishwambharpur upazila, Badaghat union of Tahirpur upazila, Sadar union of Jamalganj upazila, Banglabazar, Doarabazar Sadar, Mannargaon union of Doarabazar upazila, Chhatak municipal, Zaua Bazar and Kalaruka union in Chhatak upazila, Jagannathpur municipal and Syedpur union of Jagannathpur upazila.

On the other hand, Purbo Birgaon union of Dakshin Sunamganj upazila, Sachnabazar union of Jamalganj upazila, Pandargaon and Narsinghpur union of Doarabazar upazila, Noarai union of Chhatak upazila and Kalkalia union of Jagannathpur upazila have been identified as ‘yellow zone’.

“If anyone is found to be gathering unnecessarily in the red zone, they will be detained immediately. There will be no objection, if anyone comes outside following hygiene rules in emergency cases,” said superintendent of police Mizanur Rahman.

So far 83 people infected with novel coronavirus have been detected in the district.
