Deputy tax commissioner drowned in pond while swimming

A deputy tax commissioner, Omar Faruk alias Masum, 35, drowned while swimming in a pond at his village in Chatkhil of Noakhali.

He went missing in the pond at around 11:00am on Wednesday.

The divers of the fire service rescued him unconscious at around 5:00pm from the water body and took to the upazila health complex where the on-duty physician declared him dead.

Police said the deceased Omar Faruk is the son of Fazlur Rahman, resident of Kalikapur village at 8 no ward of Khilpara union in Chatkhil. He passed the 31st Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) and joined as the assistant tax commissioner.

Later, Faruk was promoted to deputy tax commissioner and was discharging duties in Dhaka. Locals said Faruk accompanied by four of his friends went to swim in a pond, 'Mallika Dighi'. Later he went missing while swimming.
